The University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA-Wise) provides a comprehensive education in software engineering. The Software Engineering program at UVA-Wise is designed to prepare students for a successful career in the Information Technology field. Through a comprehensive and innovative curriculum, UVA-Wise students gain an understanding of the principles and techniques of software development, as well as knowledge and skills necessary to work with various technologies, platforms, and computing environments.

At UVA-Wise, students in the software engineering program have the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of software development, including the creation and design of software applications and systems. The program focuses on introduction to programming languages, such as Java, C/C++ and HTML/CSS, as well as algorithm design and analysis, software design and engineering principles, software testing and validation, and software maintenance. Additionally, coursework in computer architecture, networking, databases, artificial intelligence, and security are included.

Upon graduation, students will be well-prepared to enter the growing field of software engineering with a skill set that includes designing, developing, demonstrating, and troubleshooting software applications, as well as the abilities to problem solve and critically analyze. UVA-Wise also offers internships to software engineering students, giving them the chance to gain hands-on experience while still in school.
